His Wishes

REFLECTION & PRACTICE (Day 5 of 7)
(Need to start at the beginning? Day 1)

Our three concepts to consider:

stewardship – He’s the boss
take action – because love does
be God-dependent – be a branch on the Vine

I’ve been thinking about stewardship a bit.

Stewardship starts with acknowledging an owner (let’s say God) and then getting to know His wishes so you can serve in line with those wishes.

He’s a Good Boss

REFLECTION & PRACTICE (Day 4 of 7)
(Need to start at the beginning? Day 1)

Our three recent concepts:

stewardship – He’s the boss
take action – because love does
be God-dependent – be a branch on the Vine

I heard a talk recently where authority and submission to authority were mentioned. I think most folks struggle with the concept because we have seen authority so misused. Who wants to let someone else be boss when it’s just going to bring you grief?

When it comes to God, He is love and what He does is perfect. Kinda hard to beat that. 🙂 I guess what I’m thinking is that I need to focus on that. He’s the boss and that’s OK because He won’t misuse His authority. I can trust him with my marriage, my home, my work, and more.

I’ll own it’s not always easy, but it’s a helpful focus.

Here Kitty, Kitty

REFLECTION & PRACTICE (Day 3 of 7)
(Need to start at the beginning? Day 1)

Our concepts for review:

stewardship – He’s the boss
take action – because love does
be God-dependent – be a branch on the Vine

This may seem somewhat off-topic at first, but hear me out.

I realized I was spending a bit too much time on social media (maybe a bit more than a bit). Given our topics, that’s seems like an unwise choice.

What I watch influences me. The educational stuff I can live with, but the mindless scrolling of kitty videos, how to shop at Goodwill, etc. are not really adding too much to my life and are not really encouraging me to be more God-dependent. It’s also a huge time sink. There are far better things I could spend my time on.

silly cat

I’m not saying I won’t look at another funny kitty video, just that I’m going to set some limits to my daily tech and have the occasional tech-free day.

How is your tech consumption? Is it God-honoring? Is it marriage-helpful?

And just so you know I’m not “all work and no play”, here’s a short funny kitty video. (Now put down your phone and go hug your sweetie.)

Staying Current

REFLECTION & PRACTICE  (Day 2 of 7)
(Need to start at the beginning? Day 1)

Here are our three concepts:

stewardship – He’s the boss
take action – because love does
be God-dependent – be a branch on the Vine

Over the last few weeks, I’ve come to realize I’m stuck in the past.

I talk with God about something and act on it … and then it’s set in stone. Little room for changes in life, in seasons, or in situations. I “know” what God wants and I do it. And I keep doing it.

Now, some of that is not bad. God wants me in His Word. I do it and I keep doing it.

However, people change. Seasons change.

I change, my sweetie changes, and loving on him needs to change with it. I’ve been doing a lot of things by rote. I’m trying to consider what love might look in this season of our lives.

Love does, but it’s nicer if the expression of love is more current. 🙂

Where’s Your Focus?

REFLECTION & PRACTICE  (Day 1 of 7)

Let’s take a week and marinate in our recent concepts.

stewardship – He’s the boss
take action – because love does
be God-dependent – be a branch on the Vine

Which concept nudged your heart the most? Which spoke most to issues in your marriage? What was easier? More difficult?

Where would you like to focus today?

A friend of mine (thanks, Diana!) set a goal to read one non-fiction book a month. I think that’s a great idea and one I’m going to adopt. Here’s my setup. This would be especially good if you have a specific focus for learning. By the end of the year, you’d be an expert!

I Did It His Way

CONCLUSIONS – BRANCH ON THE VINE  (Day 7 of 7)
(Need to start at the beginning? Day 1)

So how did you do this week? Were you able to be more aware of God during your day? How did that impact how you treated your spouse?

I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. John 15:5 ESV

This week’s concept of leaning into Him dovetailed nicely with the recent stewardship week. If He’s the boss, we need to be about doing His business, His way. None of this doing-it-my-way stuff.

I spent a good deal of time thinking about this in terms of my sweetie. There are some areas I could grow in (where I tend to do what I’ve always done, rather than considering God may want something different). I’m going to hang onto this week’s work for a while yet.
