Be a Good Friend

FIRST TRY – BE A GOOD FRIEND (Day 3 of 7)
(Need to start at the beginning? Day 1)

Watch how you interact with others today.

The righteous choose their friends carefully, but the way of the wicked leads them astray. Proverbs 12:26 NIV

Take the time to look at how your friends impact you and how you impact your friends. I’m certainly not asking you to toss any friends. I’m just asking you to be wise and aware.

Which relationships are important to you? How can you make those relationships better and healthier? What do you need to do? What do you need to stop doing?

In your marriage, what would make you a better friend to your husband? Are there enjoyable things you used to do together? Perhaps it’s time for a nostalgic date.  🙂

Take the day to be a good friend and invite your friends into healthier and more enjoyable relationships.

ISO Good Friend

SELF-EXAMINATION – BE A GOOD FRIEND (Day 2 of 7)
(Need to start at the beginning? Day 1)

I think I’m a bit envious of extroverts (hoo, boy, dump the envy) as they seem to have an easier time of making friends. As an introvert (I need alone time to recharge), I’ve had to work on my people skills. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love many people. I just need them in smaller doses.

The righteous choose their friends carefully, but the way of the wicked leads them astray. Proverbs 12:26 NIV

The nice thing about this scripture is it’s good for extroverts and introverts alike. It’s about choosing good and wise friends. And in a backhanded way, inviting us to be good friends.

How are y’all at being good friends?

My intention is to meet people where they are and love them well. Being a good friend requires that I get to know them well, so I can bless them well.

On the flip side, choosing my friends isn’t about perfection, it’s about finding good-hearted people whose company I enjoy.  Integrity is high on my list. They must also like chocolate.

CONCEPT – BE A GOOD FRIEND  (Day 1 of 7)

Yup, I’m hanging out in Proverbs again.

The righteous choose their friends carefully, but the way of the wicked leads them astray. Proverbs 12:26 NIV

Good friends keep their friends safe rather than leading them into foolish or harmful ways. So pick good friends and be a good friend. Be your spouse’s best friend.

Give the concept some thought today. What does a good friend look like? A bad friend?

Grace and More Grace

COFFEE CHAT  (Day 7 of 7)
(Need to start at the beginning? Day 1)

Spending a week looking at my own sin was a bit of a downer.

… for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.  Romans 3:23-24 ESV

I have to remind myself that my works (good or bad) aren’t the source of my righteousness. It’s all on Him and His work on the cross.

I’m still all about agreeing with God and letting Him work in and through my life, but I need to temper my walk with an understanding of grace, giving Him all the glory.

Thank you, Jesus, for your incredible gift of salvation, a gift of grace.

My tulips are finally showing up.

We’ve had a bit of rain and some sunshine, so it’s time for a little mushroom foraging (these are oyster mushrooms).

Have an amazing day!

Sin is Heavy

CONCLUSIONS – SET DOWN SIN  (Day 6 of 7)
(Need to start at the beginning? Day 1)

This has been a heavier week for me.

Let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus … Hebrews 12: 1b-2a ESV

Facing and dealing with my attitudes and actions has been quite the challenge. No big things like murder or running off with the mailman.

Just sins of the heart and some less than generous attitudes. (I use the word “just” loosely.)

I think I need to get back into Proverbs. It was so nice to read a daily chapter and let it soak into my day. It helped me more quickly see right from wrong, and grew my heart toward those things that delight God.

How did y’all do? What did you learn? How did it impact your marriage? Do you need to have any conversations with your spouse?

Where Are You Most Vulnerable?

SECOND TRY – SET DOWN SIN  (Day 5 of 7)
(Need to start at the beginning? Day 1)

Another day of considering and dealing with our own sins …

Let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus … Hebrews 12: 1b-2a ESV

What has God been teaching you? Where are you most vulnerable?

In your marriage, where are you most tempted to go your own way? What can you do to curb that and try God’s way?

(If you and your spouse are struggling with significant issues and feeling overwhelmed, do consider getting outside help. My go-to stance is, “When you feel stuck, seek help. Don’t continue to struggle on your own. That’s just miserable.”)
