Honor Others

CONCLUSIONS – HONOR OTHERS  (Day 6 of 7)
(Need to start at the beginning? Day 1)

It was a challenging week for me.

I spent far too much time pushing past reaction and trying to choose my behavior based on the kind of person I want to be. I had time around a few folks who were a bit abrupt.

It was tempting to step back and distance myself, rather than treat everyone kindly and respectfully.

How did y’all do? Were you able to find opportunities to show honor? Were you able to show special attention to your spouse? How did that play out? Were they blessed?

We’ve had another spate of cold weather (good thing I haven’t put my tomatoes out).

Time to snuggle up at home and work another jigsaw puzzle.

Take the Time to See Them

SECOND TRY – HONOR OTHERS  (Day 5 of 7)
(Need to start at the beginning? Day 1)

It’s another day of practice in showing honor to others.

Think especially about your spouse. How can you show them a little care and appreciation? How can you show that you see them and that they matter?

You know your spouse. What speaks love to them? Is there something you used to do for them that they enjoyed, but you’ve stopped doing? Could you do that again? Are there words they need to hear?

We’ve been having lots of rain lately and the clouds have been gorgeous.

I sit outside whenever the raindrops take a break and soak in the beauty. God does incredible artwork.

ROADBLOCKS – HONOR OTHERS  (Day 4 of 7)
(Need to start at the beginning? Day 1)

So where’s the hangup? Why is it difficult to honor others?

Certainly it’s a habit to be developed and that takes effort and intention.

It’s also hard to honor others when you are hungry for honor yourself. It’s hard to honor others who are not kind or respectful to you. These are heart issues that the indwelling Spirit can help us with.

We are deeply loved by God. We are in perfect standing with Him in Christ, so we don’t lose our value (even when we mess up). Can we learn to rest in that? Can we reach out and honor others from the fullness that we have resting in Him?

Just a pretty picture today.

Look for Opportunities

FIRST TRY – HONOR OTHERS  (Day 3 of 7)
(Need to start at the beginning? Day 1)

Let’s spend the day looking for opportunities to honor others (especially your spouse).

Let that driver pull out in front of you (with a smile and a wave). Compliment a friend on their new shoes or a recent success. Give your sweetie a hug and a kind word. Fix their favorite dinner or bring home their favorite dessert.

In what ways can you make others feel appreciated and valued? (Do consider love languages for a double whammy of appreciation.)

Oh, yeah, my dark purple irises are starting to put on a show.

Do You Honor?

 SELF-EXAMINATION – HONOR OTHERS  (Day 2 of 7)
(Need to start at the beginning? Day 1)

I have a friend that does so well at showing others honor.

And this gal is well-respected in her field. She could be arrogant about her accomplishments, but she isn’t.

I’ve learned a lot just by watching her. Over the years, I’ve been aware of this concept and have practiced giving honor to those around me. It’s kind of fun to walk into a group of people, encourage others, compliment folks, or honor the accomplishments of others. It changes the atmosphere of the group in a lovely way.

Has this concept been a part of your world? Do you know folks who do this well? Are you able to recognize and give honor to others? Are you able to honor your spouse in little ways during the day? Do you speak well of your spouse in public (in front of them and behind their back)?

This is kale growing in my garden. I love the mix of purple and green. Such a pretty plant.

I’m pretty new to kale, so if any of you have a way you like to prepare it, please share. Have any of you made kale chips?

Do the Honors

CONCEPT – HONOR OTHERS  (Day 1 of 7)

I was sitting in church listening to the speaker and this part of a verse popped out at me.

Outdo one another in showing honor. Romans 12:10b ESV

I grabbed the only paper in my purse (a napkin) and quickly wrote it down.

Here’s what the Amplified version says.

… give preference to one another in honor. Romans 12:10b AMP

Let’s take the day and consider what that might look like. In what ways can we show respect and give priority to others? What shows others that we value them? Why would God consider this important? How would this play out in marriage?

My guys spent the day milling wood. Hard work, but here in Washington state, milling downed trees is pretty common.
