Gentle Words  (Day 1 of 6)

I keep coming back to the importance of tone of voice and choice of words when communicating.

A soft and gentle and thoughtful answer turns away wrath, but harsh and painful and careless words stir up anger. Proverbs 15:1  AMP

The other thing to add into the mix is this concept from Gottman.

Discussions invariably end on the same note as they begin. John Gottman

A conversation started with harsh or biting words means your discussion is likely to end badly with no resolution. A conversation started gently with thoughtful words opens the door to more pleasant conversation where problems can be discussed and hopefully resolved.

Give this some thought today and talk to God about what this looks like. Think back to times when words were harshly or gently spoken.

Paul and I live with extended family (and a couple of friends) on ten acres in the Northwest. Every month we have a workday and a meeting to discuss how we are doing and where we are going with various projects on the property.

We just finished up a solar-powered water source to keep our pond water levels up and we’re in the planning stages of a community root cellar.

We also have a rule that meetings must include chocolate. Hey, it’s our meeting and we get to make the rules! 🙂  (A picture of chocolate two days in a row. Hmmm.)
