Let me tell you about my garden.
We planted some tried-and-true crops and some new-to-us crops this year. We had a hard start because the frosts kept coming (the last one in June), but we kept planting, watering, and weeding.
Some plants flourished and a few stalled or died. We did our best with what we knew and we kept watching YouTube and reading books to learn more and do better.
When the freezes starting coming on this fall, we protected what we could and harvested anything that was ready. We got the red beans, but not the black or Painted Pony beans (that didn’t have enough time to mature before the freezes). The voles got some of our Yukon potatoes (apparently they are vole candy), but we have tons of Russets and reds. There are plenty of carrots, onions, squash, corn, sunflowers (for the bunnies and chickens), and more. We’re still getting tomatoes and peppers from the shelter of our high tunnel. There is hope of sweet potatoes.

It was a mixed bag of success and failure, but we are tickled with what we were able to grow and harvest. We learned a lot, which we hope to use in next year’s garden.
I tell you all this because I think it has marriage applications.
There are seasons and circumstances outside our control (truly), but we can keep learning about and working on our marriages. We can celebrate our successes and learn from our failures. It is a work in progress, a journey, not a destination.
Let’s not lose heart. Let’s keep growing and learning. Oh, yeah, and go give your spouse a long hug and a slow kiss.

With most of the crops harvested, we turned the chickens loose in the community garden.

They love hiding in the corn and sunflowers where there are plenty of bugs for treats.
