Wrestle With Your Words

REFLECTION AND PRACTICE

AN EXTRA WEEK –  (Day 3 of 6)

As I considered these concepts, I’ve thought about words.

NIX THE ENVY & BOASTING – stop all the comparing!
CAN WE GET A LITTLE HUMILITY? – arrogance and rudeness, ug.
LET’S BE GOOD-HEARTED – nix being irritable and resentful too!

It’s one thing to stop something, but I’ve found if you don’t find a replacement, the old ways tend to creep back in.

So, instead of speaking a boast, can I compliment someone else? Instead of speaking rude words, how can I turn them into kind or thoughtful words?

COFFEE CUP

I’ve found my mouth tends to lead the way. If I can get it turned in the right direction, the rest of me usually follows along.

Let’s speak gracious words today and use them to battle icky attitudes.

Well, Paul caught a bug and is sleeping his way to better health.

TSHIRT MODEL

I’ve spent my time cleaning house and working on designing t-shirts (new designs go out the first week of 2025). It’s just Tilly and me hanging around the house, occasionally doing something for Paul.

Turn Away From the Negative

REFLECTION AND PRACTICE

AN EXTRA WEEK –  (Day 2 of 6)

Another day of practice …

NIX THE ENVY & BOASTING – stop all the comparing!
CAN WE GET A LITTLE HUMILITY? – arrogance and rudeness, ug.
LET’S BE GOOD-HEARTED – nix being irritable and resentful too!

I’m still focusing on turning away from cranky attitudes.

I really don’t like it went someone vents a good deal of the time (totally understand now and then). It makes the atmosphere so negative. I don’t want to be guilty of doing that, especially to my nearest and dearest.

CRANKY WIFE

Where will you focus today? What area could use a little practice?

A while back, I mentioned my grandson’s new kitty – Zelda.

Well, she grew up, went into heat and, despite everyone’s attempts to keep her home, she went AWOL. She had been gone around two days and we were concerned she had become some critter’s winter snack.

ZELDA THE KITTY

Thankfully, she showed up yesterday. Kittens in March.  🙂  I’m sure Tilly would love to have a new friend.

Mutzing Around in Love

REFLECTION AND PRACTICE

AN EXTRA WEEK –  (Day 1 of 6)

How lovely! We have a week of reflection. What good timing for the end of one year moving into a new year. 🙂

We’ve spent the last three weeks mutzing around in the love passage of 1 Corinthians.

NIX THE ENVY & BOASTING – stop all the comparing!
CAN WE GET A LITTLE HUMILITY? – arrogance and rudeness, ug.
LET’S BE GOOD-HEARTED – nix being irritable and resentful too!

Let’s take this week to let God continue to work on our hearts and minds.

MIND & HEART

I’m thinking about the good-hearted attitude. When I get all irritated, it’s because I’m (too) busy and my stuff seems more important. I’m trying to catch my attitudes in the making so I can stop and redirect.

What will you practice today?

I’d like to thank all y’all (it’s a southern thing) who have donated toward our support. We’re in the middle of our end-of-year support drive. If you’d like to help us keep our lights on, click below.

#2025

SAT AM COFFEE CHAT

Hi, y’all.

This time of year, I always do a little review of life and think about changing things up a bit.

Paul and I pray and give God the upcoming year and we talk about what 2025 could look like. We ask ourselves what has had good fruit and what has wasted our time and energy. We dream a bit.

I would encourage y’all to do likewise.

HASHTAG 2025

What could 2025 look like in your life and marriage? What good fruit came from 2024 and how do you keep that going strong? What is marriage or sanity-unfriendly? What could you do instead?

I’m looking forward to some new projects in the new year.

And I’m looking forward to DOING marriage well. It’s the doing that makes the difference.

One of my 2025 goals is to do a bit more dejunking. It’s amazing how items creep into your home when you’re not looking and give you something to trip over.

I really like Home Storage Solutions 101’s yearly calendar. It’s free and it helps you baby step through dejunking your home in a year.

15 MINUTE TIMER

Fifteen minutes each week will get you there. Very doable.

It’s the Doing That Makes the Difference

MY THOUGHTS

LET’S BE GOOD-HEARTED –  (Day 6 of 6)
(Need to start at the beginning? Day 1)

So how did your holiday week go?

[Love] does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful.  1 Corinthians 13:5 ESV

Were you able to be more loving and set down the negatives?

I did fairly well. But I must say, my time was easier because Paul went into helpful mode. He made opportunity for my introvert self to have alone time. He entertained the grandkids which, believe me, are quite the handful. He cooked, helped with clean up, and more.

MAN DOING DISHES

I was deeply blessed by his actions and I learned from them. The simplest acts of service made life so much easier for others and we all felt a bit loved on too.

One evening I said, “Thanks for all your doing.” It’s the doing that makes the difference.

My DIL is so talented and creative.

CHRISTMAS SCENES

Every year she creates little scenes out of polymer clay. This year we got the lighted Christmas tree Paul made, plus a critter-scape with a bunny in memory of Newton (our house rabbit who went to rabbit heaven this year).

Egg Nog Fudge

SECOND TRY

LET’S BE GOOD-HEARTED –  (Day 5 of 6)
(Need to start at the beginning? Day 1)

It’s the day after Christmas. How are you doing?

[Love] does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful.  1 Corinthians 13:5 ESV

Let’s keep the good-heartedness rolling. 🙂

Who can you bless today? Who needs a bit of help or a listening ear?

COUPLE TALKING

Do you need to rest a bit so you have the energy to set down irritation? Is there something you need to talk to God about so you can drop resentment or a desire to fuss about getting your own way?

(For the record, my kitchen is not nearly that clean, especially the day after Christmas.)

We play games and eat leftovers for several days after Christmas.

EGG NOG FUDGE

Eggnog fudge is a favorite during that time.

EGG NOG FUDGE

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups white sugar
  • 2 TBS cornstarch
  • 1 ½ cups eggnog (the best quality you can get)
  • 1 (7 oz) container marshmallow cream
  • 12 oz white baking chips
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • nutmeg

Directions:

  1. Line the bottom of a 9×13 inch pan with parchment paper.
  2. Combine cornstarch and sugar in a large pot. Add eggnog and use medium heat to bring to a boil, stirring occasionally with a whisk.
  3. Boil 10 minutes, whisking constantly.
  4. Reduce heat to low and add white chocolate chips. Mix until melted.
  5. Add marshmallow cream in several blobs.
  6. When marshmallow cream is mostly melted, turn on the heat, add butter and whisk until well incorporated.
  7. Beat! At 110° to 113° F beat with paddle mixer until it starts to thicken and lose its gloss (about 20-30 minutes).
  8. Pour into pan and sprinkle the top with nutmeg.
  9. Cool on a wire rack and then refrigerate.
  10. Remove from pan, peel off the parchment paper, and cut.
  11. Store in airtight container in the refrigerator.
  12. Enjoy!
