SELF-EXAMINATION

CAN WE GET A LITTLE HUMILITY?  (Day 2 of 6)
(Need to start at the beginning? Day 1)

I’ve been asking myself where arrogance and rudeness come from.

[Love] is not arrogant or rude.  1 Corinthians 13:4b-5a ESV

It seems to be wrapped up in how we see our worth and the worth of others. Sometimes that’s a reflection in how we were raised and sometimes it’s about the choices we make in our hearts.

Examine your history. What do you see in terms of arrogance vs. humility? Where did it come from? What have you been taught or seen modeled?

Take the day to talk to God about the place arrogance has played in your life. Is rudeness OK or something to be avoided? What excuses have we told ourselves when we’ve acted badly?

When Paul and I travel, we look for unique Christmas ornaments, especially one that represents our year. We haven’t found one for this year, but here is last year’s Polish pottery chicken ornament (yes, we did a lot of raising of chickens that year).

POLISH POTTERY CHICKEN ORNAMENT

As an aside, I find that buying ornaments that represent the year are great when it comes to memory sharing. We have a wire star, a small trowel, and gingerbread house ornaments. Bringing them out each year is delightful, with lots of “Remember when…” stories.

It’s also a healing thing to have “we remember” ornaments for folks that are home with Jesus and still dear to our hearts. It makes it easier to share stories of them with family and friends.
