Jump Up and Do Something!

REFLECTION AND PRACTICE

AN EXTRA WEEK –  (Day 6 of 6)

Our three concepts for this week.

WEIGH YOUR WORDS – because words have power.
LET’S ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING – because love does.
SAY/DO NOTHING – because sometimes nothing is a better choice.

How did your week go? What did you learn? Did you have any interesting conversations with your spouse? How did your practice impact your marriage?

Paul and I had some good talks. We edit each other’s blog posts, so we know what we’re each writing about. It’s so nice to have the feedback of someone else when you’re writing. It also makes it easier to talk about our subject matter. We have built in conversation starters.

WOMAN JUMPING OFF OF A COUCH

I think my biggest takeaway from this week, is just the get-up-off-the-couch-and-do-something perspective. It’s easy to get busy or lazy and leave a lot of loving and serving undone (with many an excuse following).

It takes intention and effort to love others well.

Have a great weekend, y’all!

Hi, all. We just sent out 2024 giving statements by email (should be in your Inbox) and snail mail (should be in your mailbox in the next couple of days).

THANK YOU GRAPHIC

Our deepest gratitude for everyone’s support and prayers. We couldn’t do what we do without y’all.

Word Gifts

REFLECTION AND PRACTICE

AN EXTRA WEEK –  (Day 5 of 6)

Our three concepts for this week.

WEIGH YOUR WORDS – because words have power.
LET’S ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING – because love does.
SAY/DO NOTHING – because sometimes nothing is a better choice.

I’ve been doing more thinking about words.

Being a bottom-liner, I am more apt to think through my words, but it also means I’m susceptible to not speaking up when I need to.

GIVING A GIFT

It’s helpful for me to think of words as gifts. I want to give good gifts to those around me. What kind of word gift could I give them? It helps me speak up more often.

I think it’s important to understand your natural bent and play into its strength and work to improve your weaknesses.

How are y’all doing with your word practice?

Paul and I attend a small group each week (something I recommend). We’re just starting a book study with Emotionally Healthy Spirituality (something else I recommend).

EMOTIONALLY HEALTHY SPIRITUALITY BOOK

It’s an awkward title, but an amazing book. If you want to grow up more in the Lord, this may be the book for you!

What’s In Your Heart?

REFLECTION AND PRACTICE

AN EXTRA WEEK –  (Day 4 of 6)

Our three concepts for this week.

WEIGH YOUR WORDS – because words have power.
LET’S ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING – because love does.
SAY/DO NOTHING – because sometimes nothing is a better choice.

I’ve been mulling over some scriptures and what they mean for our use of words.

The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. Luke 6:45 ESV

This one brought me up short. My words come from the condition of my heart. If I want to have gracious loving words, I need to talk to God about growing that in my heart.

WOMAN HOLDING HEART

Hmmm. More to consider on this journey.

Where are you focusing today?

I mentioned that I’ve been buying seeds for my spring garden.

SEED PACKAGES

What I am finding is that the seeds are going fast in stores and online. If you want to have a nice garden, I encourage you to start getting seeds now, start a seed sharing group, or be willing to buy and share seeds with a friend.

Gardening is fun and it’s a good way of building stability in your food sources.

Time to Serve

REFLECTION AND PRACTICE

AN EXTRA WEEK –  (Day 3 of 6)

How is your week going so far? What have you learned? What have you experienced?

WEIGH YOUR WORDS – because words have power.
LET’S ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING – because love does.
SAY/DO NOTHING – because sometimes nothing is a better choice.

I find that I really need a heart to serve.

NEON SIGN THAT SAY SERVE

If I spend time being aware of the needs of others, it is far easier for me to say or do something helpful.

Today is my social day. Plenty of opportunities for me!

Enjoy your day and love on others well, especially your sweetie.

I am somewhat gift challenged, so when I found these birds at Hobby Lobby, I did a happy dance.

PRETTY CERAMIC BIRDS

They’re a gift for a friend of mine (she’s single and doesn’t read my blog). She loves birds and pretty things. (I had no idea Hobby Lobby had so many household decorative items.)

Time for Practice

REFLECTION AND PRACTICE

AN EXTRA WEEK –  (Day 2 of 6)

Here are our three concepts to practice and learn more about this week.

WEIGH YOUR WORDS – because words have power.
LET’S ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING – because love does.
SAY/DO NOTHING – because sometimes nothing is a better choice.

I think I will spend much of my day concentrating on my words.

Paul is a “words of affirmation” guy and we will be spending most of the day together.

THINK BEFORE YOU SPEAK

What are your thoughts? Where do you need to focus and practice some today?

Today, Paul and I are celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary. Happy day!

PAUL & LORI

Here we are just days before the wedding. Now y’all, don’t make fun of the hair. It was the 80’s.

Reviewing Words and Actions

REFLECTION AND PRACTICE

AN EXTRA WEEK –  (Day 1 of 6)

Thankfully, we have a week of review. These are our three concepts

WEIGH YOUR WORDS – because words have power.
LET’S ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING – because love does.
SAY/DO NOTHING – because sometimes nothing is a better choice.

I learned a lot in the last three weeks, but I could sure more time to consider and practice them.

THE BALANCE BETWEEN ACTION AND WORDS

What did you learn? What was fairly easy for you? What was more of a challenge? In your marriage, what had the biggest impact?

I have lovely (if not eccentric) friends.

CHRISTMAS CHICKEN

One of them bought a Christmas chicken decoration and, well, it still lives on the fence at their property entrance. I can’t say anything because we kept our Christmas tree up all of 2024.
