We all have a need to feel heard. If you have kids, you saw this start when there were very young. If you visit a retirement home, you will see the elderly still have this need.
Lori and I have run into this issue in our marriage many times. And it’s not just us. If you ask wives if they feel heard by their husbands, the majority will say “NO!”. If you ask husbands the same question about their wives, the most common answer is “Not really”. Men usually sound more sad than angry, but the need is still there, and in far too many marriages that need does not feel met by either spouse.

Feeling your spouse doesn’t hear you is painful. Usually, we decide they don’t want to hear us because they don’t care about us. It starts a spiral of negative emotions that harm a marriage.
Do you feel your spouse hears you? Do you think your spouse feels you hear them?
Why not have a discussion about this? Don’t get defensive or angry, just ask the question and accept the answer. Then tune in the rest of the week for more on this vital issue.
~ This is Paul, and Doing Marriage Well requires knowing what your spouse thinks!
