Today is Thanksgiving in the States. Lori and I will spend it with family and friends; two dozen at least!

Our meal will include turkey, pork, and rabbit, all raised here. A good chunk of our veggies were also raised here. Something to be thankful for!

What I’m especially thankful for today goes hand in hand with sacrifice. We live in community here with my son, his wife, their two boys, her mother, her brother, his wife and children. Plus an unrelated couple with children.

Living in community means sacrificing a certainly degree of privacy. It also means having to discuss and agree on things that impact the land, or that others will see. But what we gain is incredible. For example, our car died a couple of months ago. We can’t access some money that is ours at the moment, so we can’t get a replacement. But we’ve had a vehicle every time we’ve needed one. I’ve driven as many as four rigs in as many days, but we’ve never been without.

We sacrifice for the folks here, and they sacrifice for us. And we all feel we get more than we give. And Lori and I find it makes our life together better.

~ This is Paul, and Doing Community Well is a whole different blog!

A couple of days ago, I helped pack turkey dinners for a local food bank.

We had a great group of volunteers, and knocked out 250 boxed in 45 minutes!
