CONCEPT  (Day 1 of 7)

I was hanging out in 2 Timothy the other day and ran across this scripture. It really touched me because recently I’ve watched a difficult situation unfold and not everyone handled it well. Some folks were rude and judgmental and others helpful and compassionate.

(Paul the apostle writing) May the Lord grant mercy to the household of Onesiphorus, for he often refreshed me and was not ashamed of my chains, but when he arrived in Rome he searched for me earnestly and found me. 2 Timothy 1:16-17 ESV

I could feel Paul’s relief and gratitude at Onesiphorus’ care (he even went out of his way to seek Paul out).

It reminded me of how important it is to stand with those who are hurting or in some kind of difficulty. It impressed me that Onesiphorus was not ashamed of his friend’s chains. In that day and age, that’s really saying something. Rome was not particularly kind and visiting someone in prison was risky at best.

That said, let’s take the day and talk to God about standing with those in difficulty (including our spouses).
