ROADBLOCKS – INNER PEACE (Day 4 of 7)
(Need to start at the beginning? Day 1)
So what stands in the way?
Let the peace of Christ [the inner calm of one who walks daily with Him] be the controlling factor in your hearts… Colossians 3:15a AMP
Looking for a source of peace other than Christ is bound to fail. I’m thinking about saying things like, “Life will be better when the kids are in school.” or “When one of us gets a raise, life will settle down and get easier.” Certainly some circumstances do make life easier, but if circumstantial peace is our source of inner peace, we’re asking for disappointment.
And, sadly, I think for many of us, trauma creates added chaos in our hearts and minds. The wounding that comes from our broken world, can mess with our ability to sort life out well. I think that’s why the spiritual disciplines (prayer, fasting, study of the Word, etc.) are so important. They help us calm down and lean into the healing strength of God.
What are your struggles with having an inner calm? Where and how does that impact your marriage?
