ROADBLOCKS – GRACIOUS WORDS (Day 4 of 7)
(Need to start at the beginning? Day 1)
What stands in the way of speaking more graciously?
Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body. Proverbs 16:24
I think one of the more common problems is we tend to react to wrongdoing in like manner. Someone does a hard thing and we answer back with hard words.
Here’s a scripture that always helps me.
And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil, correcting his opponents with gentleness. 2 Timothy 2:24-25a ESV
We can react graciously. It’s a choice. (Not saying it’s easy, but it is possible.)
My other encouragement is the example of my DIL, Forest (isn’t that a cool name).
She is so patient and gentle in correction with her two sons (and they are totally squirrelly). It always amazes me how she remains so calm in the face of mud, mischief, and general mayhem.
What other things make speaking graciously more difficult for you?
