RESOURCES (Day 6 of 7)
This is another concept that is Bible-strong. There are like a bazillion verses about being a thoughtful speaker.
Here are a few to get you started. Keep these handy to meditate on and motivate you to be “slow to speak”.
Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person. Colossians 4:6 ESV
Whoever keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps himself out of trouble. Proverbs 1:10 ESV
Do you see a man who is hasty in his words? There is more hope for a fool than for him. Proverbs 29:20 ESV
There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the wise brings healing. Proverbs 12:18 ESV
Also, if this is a particular difficult concept for you, talk to your accountability partner and ask them to touch base with you over this each week. It helps to come up with a couple of questions they can routinely ask you (like “How did you do this last week on pausing to think before you speak?” or “What was your win this last week when it came to thoughtful speaking?”).
