SELF EXAMINATION (Day 2 of 7)
(Need to start at the beginning? Day 1)
Years ago I witnessed the sweetest scene. A friend of mine was going into the house to gather some items (we were having an outdoor barbecue) and as she turned to go, a young boy shyly asked if he could go too. She smiled and said, “Of course!” in a tone of voice that said “Of course, you are wanted.” The kid’s face lit up and he ran alongside her like a happy puppy (if he’d a tail it would have been wagging like crazy).
Now, honestly, if he had asked me I would have made some excuse and left him where he stood.
I saw that day how unwelcoming I had become. I had learned to do everything myself and I never thought to include folks. It was a wake-up call for me.
So now I look for opportunities to include people. I’m not a natural at it, but, hey, I can learn and practice.
How about you? How are you doing with your invitation skills?

Ouch! The Lord has been drawing my attention to this lately, as well. I am working on it but I have SO far to go. I LOVE my kids but I’m not very good at showing it.
It’s a tough one, especially when you are busy and there are constant interruptions. I’m working on it too.
