So how do you do in making assumptions? Do you invite folks to share about themselves or do you put them in a box of your own making?

I have always had a running idea of who I think people are. In one sense, kind of normal, but after being fooled a number of times (both good and bad), I realized my limitations (I’m not in their head, they are).
I’ve tried tossing my assumptions, making room for what they say, and holding any opinions I make about them loosely. I think I still have quite a bit of growing to do in this area.
In my marriage I call it “being a student of my spouse.” Paul has changed over the years and I need to stay current. Even though I know him pretty well, I still need to invite his thoughts and give him elbow room to change.
