ROAD BLOCKS  (Day 4 of 7)

What keeps you from getting the rest you need?

tired mom

Some seasons just come with exhaustion (like a new baby or a new job with new hours), but much of what we experience is about the choices we make.

I think it’s perfectly fine to stay up all hours playing video games with your sweetie … on occasion, but when our bedtime and morning routines leave us sleep-deprived all the time, we need to rethink what we are doing.

When my kids were little I said yes to too many activities and responsibilities. I also said no to myself and my needs too often. I was a tired cranky mess.

I was also raised in a “work ’till you drop” environment. Taking time to rest meant I was being lazy. It’s taken me awhile to rework how I think about the work/play/rest balance. There are days I still catch myself looking for things to do (work, work, work), instead of living life and loving on my people.

As you’ve considered the concept of rest and looked at your life, where do you make choices that leave you too tired too often? What could you do differently?
