CONCEPT FOR THE WEEK

NIX THE ENVY & BOASTING (Day 1 of 6)

I was thinking about humility as we approach the Christmas season.

Jesus took on human form in one of the greatest acts of humility, and we need plenty of humility to deal with our sweeties, extended family, and friends during this time of the year.

That said, I was trying to think of where to go in scripture and kept coming back to the love passage in 1 Corinthians.

LOVE IS PATIENT BIBLE PASSAGE

I’ve already done a week on patience and kindness, so I thought I would take the next three weeks to work through more of the passage.

Love does not envy or boast.  1 Corinthians 16:4b ESV

envy: A feeling of discontented or resentful longing aroused by someone else’s possessions, qualities, or luck. A desire to have a quality, possession, or other desirable attribute belonging to (someone else).

boast: Talk with excessive pride and self-satisfaction about one’s achievements, possessions or abilities. An act of talking with excessive pride and self-satisfaction.

I’m seeing a theme here. There’s a lot of comparison going on, followed by dissatisfaction or excessive pride.

Let’s take the day to talk to God about this very human problem. How does this play out in marriage? How does it play out in various other relationships and roles?

I’ve started pulling out some Christmas decorations.

CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS

The tree on the left is something Paul and I made together our first year of marriage. (I did all the bead work and Paul worked in some LED lights. We survived the joint project, a small miracle). 🙂
